The Dysphagia Outreach Project is a newly established nonprofit organization whose mission is to collect and distribute dysphagia supplies to individuals in need, establish a dysphagia awareness advocacy program, provide education services relating to appropriate prescription and use of dysphagia supplies, and assist in establishing a network of interconnected dysphagia support groups across the country. Since dysphagia affects individuals at any age, our goal is to advocate for support and awareness of issues related to dysphagia across the lifespan. We also aim to improve interdisciplinary team-building and cooperation to ensure that individuals with dysphagia, their family/caregivers, and their care team are all educated regarding evidence-based practice in swallowing and swallowing disorders.
Phase 1 of our efforts will be focusing on fundraising to support our 501(c)3 Federal Nonprofit Tax-Exempt status application process and to help cover other legal fees associated with ensuring that this organization runs in the most efficient and effective (and safe) manner possible. We are also seeking volunteers to fill our existing committees and to potentially lead our new ones. Because of the possibility that this organization will grow quite large and touch THOUSANDS of lives across the country, having volunteers in ALL areas of the country and with different specializations will be absolutely essential.
